Alan Rogers Here

Postby alanrogers1 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:35 pm

I m the real Alan Rogers who played in the fifties for Hyde United when as far as I can see won more trophies in that period than sadly teams up to date I lived in the the Manchester district where most of that team came from and sadly one or two have passed away I managed to score 6O goals one year during my stay at Hyde mainly because the game was so open in those days , but as George Best used to say they still had to be scored. My biggest regret was not signing for Preston and a visit from Middlesbrough manager asking me if I signed for them I would be playing in the first team on the Saturday. And for some reason I rang him on the Friday and turned him down, you can imagine in my later years how I have regretted that decision I suppose I should try and get to Hyde to see how they are doing but I am not really a good watcher. I wish them well for the future.

I watched Alan Rogers play in the all conquering team.Walton Brickell Parkinson Pye Walker Barber Morrisey ROGERS Hilton Webster Lansley. No subs in those days!!
He is arguably the BEST player to don the Hyde shirt in the last 60 years.
Those supporters who were priveledged to see him play may possibly agree with me.

I've got to agree with DJW. David, you're quoting a team of legends there. I'd like to see big Sammy Walker punce some of today's soft forwards over into Leigh Street school yard. And Freddie Pye's infamous sliding tackles sometimes went over half the width of the pitch. And great crowds to match as well, with regular attendances of between 1500 and 2000.

I'm sure Alan's message will bring back fond memories for some of us 'more mature' fans.

Happy daze ;)

Alan Rogers here I have just got my grandson for tea so I have not had chance to thank DJW ,EUAN FIELDS and The End is nigh for their comments. He steers me thru the various hazards of the computer, me being of a more MATURE statue. I had a smile when I read about Freddie Pye and Sammy Walkers sliding tackles I really should be thankful I was on the right side of them. You know I will always remember the first time I saw Freddie Pye when he first walked in the dressing room on training night ,it was like watching Steptoe ,Flat Cap , Scarf ,long coat and Wellies, and always had a wad of notes which he turned over to trainer Harold Bramwell ,as you probably know he was in the scrap game. Sadly he has now departed along with Tony Morrisey and Harold Barber. I am glad that Manchester City are long term partners with Hyde to assure long term stability of the club, I have only added this because my grandson who is sat next to me is a BIG City fan so I have got to humour him :) Thanks again speak to you again

Well, Well Well my uncle the best player to have played for Hyde United in the last sixty years...I feel very proud and will be telling everyone who care's to listen to this opinion. He's been telling me for years he was quite a footballer but I never really believed him. It just goes to show, I wish I could say it runs in the family but I certainly never inherited Uncle Alan's genius. Nice one uncle Alan, milk it! I am proud to say you are my uncle! Your brother Charlie my Dad will be smiling all the way to Hyde to watch you take the plaudits...get in there! Love David x
