Another historic club goes to the wall , Southend and Cardiff both got a 4 week repreive today to see if they can get their finances sorted .

If Portsmouth wasn't in the supposedly " Richest league in the world " I doubt they would still be afloat , I Think it's time a little bit of money filtered down the divisions a bit .

This tag is fast disappearing into the ether which is a great shame because in reality its one of the most thought provoking posts
i have seen in a long while.
The Premiership treat themselves as if they are ensconced on Mount Olympus , they have been after a european superleague for
how many years now ! and they acheived by default its called the champions league. I am surprised there has been no counter comment
or another opinion offered by a City or a United fan in reaction to the point Andy is making could it be possibly be the truth is hard to deal with ?
170 grand a week for merely kicking a ball up and down a field for ninety minutes its insane , i feel Andy is right they could do a lot more but
will they. I spoke to Pav about it , he wouldnt comitt himself directly but i am pretty certain he is accutely aware of the very dark and very uncertain
future football faces beyond the elite. How many clubs are in the fertiliser we have just lost two in a month then there is Portsmouth , Cardiff ,
Southend , Crystal Palace and a lot lot more besides. Where will we be in twelve / eighteen months time ? Dave Pace made a reference to it in
the feature in the evening news tonight these are harsh economic times the country has a debt mountain bigger than Everest five times over and
we have a certain body who it would seem appears to resemble a rottweiler with a headache so to repeat where will we be in eighteen months hence
interesting or not 1 !

Good reply above , I think premiership players themselves have a lot to blame for the current crisis , expecting £ 120k a week when they know its the hard working people on the street who are skinning themselves week in week out just to afford to go to the match , Yesterday Portsmouth made 85 backroom staff redundant ( Cleaners , secretarys etc ) and the administrator on sky sports news said " This move is unfortunate but needed to cut around 350 thousand pounds off the annual wage bill "

350 thousand less than a months wage for David James !

They all should hang their heads in shame , Football at the top level is ruining grass roots and lower league clubs full stop.

Let's be realistic. If anyone offered me more than my present employer thought I was worth, would I say "Sorry, that's too much", or would I move? Now let's think.

Players could have demanded £100k pw and more till they were blue in the face and it would have got them nowhere. But they didn't need to. They just accepted the offer of that amount.

Expecting players, even if they're not as thick as stories make out, to ponder the macro-economics of the game, is ludicrous. They, like the rest of us, assume their employers know what they're doing. It's been shown to be naive, but that's how it works. And while City and a few other clubs are prepared to fuel another round of this farrago, who can say where it will stop?

A supercilious and sanctimonious response , a big question mark hardly an answer. Clubs are falling down like ninepins and
there is nothing to suggest to me that the dominoe effect is going to be averted , i hope i am wrong. The premiership " oligarchs "
are firmly entrenched in their bijou ivory towers and like Nero will fiddle away while the carnage and catastrophe goes on around them
unless we can spirit a magic wand from somewhere

HRP's beguilingly simple use of language hides a fiercely keen intellect.

The players smugly accept contract offers which at least the more intelligent among them suspect are economically insupportable.
The owners/chairmen/CEOs make these offers knowing that the only way the excrement might not hit the air conditioning is if absolutely everything goes 100% their club's way for the next 5 years.
Murdoch, and broadcasters generally, take no responsibility for their cash injections causing hyper inflation, even though 'more money for the same level of goods = rising prices' has been GCSE economics for hundreds of years.
The authorities, be it the FA, UEFA, FIFA, whoever, have no idea how to react because, after all, more money is good, isn't it?
The fans don't really give a toss until the excrement does fly, as long as the results on the field are good.
As for the ivory tower manufacturers.....
