The Tigers ended their recent goal drought in dramatic fashion on Monday night by going four goals up immediately after half-time to secure their first victory since mid-September. Farsley pulled a goal back with a dubious penalty but this game was all about confidence and belief for Hyde and by the end they could have had more.
Hyde welcomed back Chris Lynch after his two game suspension had lasted six weeks and started with Scott Mooney upfront in place of Glyn Hurst. Both played their part in a excellent team performance. Farsley did their bit too in a pulsating game but their ponderous defence didn’t match their creative play going forwards.
Mark Lees signalled Hyde’s positive intentions as early as the 12th minute with a thunderbolt shot but was thwarted by a good save from Josh Bell. After breaking clear down the left, Lee Rick cut inside and put Hyde in front on twenty minutes. Kevin Holsgrove did the same on the right and sent a screamer into the back of the net for the second and then Rick again scored almost a replica of his first right on half time.
Within a minute of the restart, Holsgrove broke down the right and Mooney was on hand to score from close range. The visitors were on the rack but gained a lifeline on 53 minutes when Roy Stammer’s cross struck Lynch in the box. Referee Mr Copeland immediately pointed to the spot and Dominic Krief made no mistake.
All of a sudden Hyde started to panic as Farsley unexpectedly had a lifeline and there was a rocky 15 minute spell for the home side before normal service was resumed. Bell had to scramble away a long range effort from Scott McNiven before Tom Manship tested the ‘keeper with a 50 yard effort which he just managed to divert around the post. Mooney had the ball the net but was adjudged offside and Bell had to be at his best to keep out efforts from Matty Burke and Nathan Arnold as Hyde stormed to victory.
In the last few seconds Patrice Liburd was sent off for a dreadful unnecessary tackle on substitute Ben Rowbotham, who had only been on the pitch for two minutes, to complete a thoroughly bad night for the visitors.
